The O.C.

Lucy and I spent our spring break tagging along on Sam's business trip to Orange County California. We were itching to get our toes in the sand so we dropped Sam off at work and immediately headed for Laguna Beach. Who wouldn't love a swing right there in the sand over looking the ocean??

We checked out lots of beaches.... day 2 we headed up to Newport beach.
Wednesday night we met Sam's dad (who was also in on business) in L.A. to watch a Clippers game at the Staples Center.

This day Lucy and I checked out Huntington Beach and did some driving along Pacific Coast Highway back to Laguna.

We got to bring Sam along on our adventures on Saturday and we flexed our muscles on Venice beach.

A nice finish to a trip is a dip in the hot tub.
But now.... I'm going to have a hard time staying home while Sam's off in california now that I know what fun I'm missing out on!!!

The last month

It's been a while since I posted so here are some updates from the last month in our house...
Lucy has been a sweet heart as always. She loves to dance and sing songs. She is learning lots of new words which has been very fun! Some of her favorite words at the moment: 'Mama', 'Dada', 'more', "bye bye', 'bird', 'outside', 'bubbles', 'thank you', 'Mimi', 'Papaw', 'Abue', 'Papa', "yum yum' and my favorite "oh yea!"

Lucy loves to Skype... everytime she sees the computer she starts to shout "mimi" or "papaw!"

Last month Lucy had a cold but seemed to get much better after only a couple of days so we didn't think much of it until out of nowhere she started throwing up. Sam was gone in California so I took her in to see the Dr. that evening thinking she must have a stomach virus. The Dr. was immediately concerned with her breathing being too rapid and said the vomitting was secondary to her not getting enough oxygen. After a very scary hour in the Dr.s office, he decided she responded well enough to the medicine that she didn't need to go to the ER but instead needed breathing treatments and a steroid to treat infected lungs. After a few days of breathing treatments every 4 hours Lucy perked back up to her happy little self. One thing was certain during all of that drama... we really missed Sam!! We had to continue the breathing treatments for the rest of the month. Poor girl.

I think she liked the extra TV time she got on account of having to sit still with a mask on her face.

Spring time at last! Lucy LOVES playing out side!! On this particular day I had bought her a little mini-kite to take to the park while Sam played basketball... she loved chasing it around and was begging to hold it... Why do I give in? Within about 3 seconds of holding the kite she had it so completely tangled that we had to toss it. :(

We just got back last night from a trip to Houston. We stayed with Jake and Kelly (thanks guys!) and then went down to Melanie's apartment to meet up with Mel, Mom, Dad and Carson. We had the not-so-unique idea to enjoy the lovely weather outside at the zoo. Given all the people there, it was a zoo within a zoo. But, none the less, Lucy loved seeing all the animals and we all enjoyed being out side on a nice day.

All in all, I can't believe how big she is getting! Her hair has grown out alot this last month and she is finally becoming 'tolerant' of a pony tail. She loves to play games and show off her tricks for people. Lucy's favorite thing to show off is her back scratching skill! She really enjoys giving back scratches to everyone in the room. Sam and I are working on teaching her how to give foot rubs next.. and then I think dish washing will be next on the agenda.
We leave tomorrow morning for Orange County California! Sam is working in Cali this week but since I am on Spring Break, Lucy and I get to go too!! Hopefully, I'll be posting next week with lots of photos of my lovely Lucy and I relaxing on Laguna Beach!

"Snowpocalypse"

So Dallas gets one or two bouts of "winter weather" each year but last week we got a particularly nasty winter storm. All of the roads were completely iced over and the temperatures didn't get out of the teens and twenties for 4 days. So... we hunkered down in the house with s'more supplies and a sled and had some good family time...
Snow day 1:
Snow Day 2:

Snow Day 3: (no photos! We were so bored in the house that we braved the roads to go see The King's Speech at the Movies)
Snow Day 4:

Snow Day 5: (the day Lucy is finally allowed to touch it! haha)

So, if you are keeping count... I was off of work Tuesday-Friday of last week due to weather. Then, add Monday and Tuesday (so far) of this week staying home with a sick Lucy (too much playing in the snow probably.)

Lucy has a respiratory infection and is on breathing treatments for the time being to try and clear things up. Sam is off to California and I am just hoping they remember who I am when I show back up at work! Ha!

Mimi's Visit

My mom had a meeting in Dallas last week and stayed for the weekend to visit us. We took advantage of the great weather and took Lucy down to the Dallas Zoo.

If she some day has an irrational fear of birds.... I believe this may be the reason. ha!

Note to self: do not wear floral head band into giant bird cage. ever.

Thanks for coming to visit Mimi!

A song and dance

For your viewing pleasure... a song and dance number from the one and only Lucy.

(she doesn't always run around topless... but the kid is a messy eater, these were filmed after a particularly dirty dinner)

Little School Girl

Lucy started going to the day care in our neighborhood last week. It has been a huge change but Lucy is adjusting quickly and life is getting back to normal! On the first day, she spotted me parking my car from her classroom window. Everyday after that her teacher reported that Lucy's favorite activity was playing by the window... Poor kid.... Glad we got that first week over with!!

Isn't she the cutest little school girl you ever did see??

She may not love school yet.... but boy does she love being the owner of a back pack. The first few days she had it- she wore that thing ALL day.

Special note to Aunt Melanie- notice the purple jacket that goes EVERYWHERE Lucy goes!!
In other Swanson family news: Sam is off to California one week a month for work... Lucy and I have been having lots of fun with our 'ladies nights' but we sure do miss 'dada' all week until he gets home!!

First post of 2011!

We were ringing in 2011 with the Swanson clan! Lucy, meet cousin Leo.

Lucy loves being one of the girls with Maria and Layla

In case you've been keeping count- Sam and I celebrated 4 years of wedded bliss last week. To comemorate this momentous occasion I leave you with this awesome photo of us circa 2006 on a non stop drive to the California coast. This photo cracks me up every time.... and yes, our love is strong enough to out last an unflattering photo such as this. HA! Love you Sam!!!
